What is the core of the plan?                                                  

The state of Georgia is expanding public medical education through the University System of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine, the state's only public medical school, as part of its effort to meet the health care needs of a growing, aging population.

A key component of expansion, is collaboration between the MCG School of Medicine and the University of Georgia, the state's flagship university, that is enabling a new four-year campus in Athens expected to matriculate students in August 2010.

The MCG School of Medicine also is expanding clinical education through two clinical campuses in South Georgia. The Southwest Georgia Clinical Campus has its hub in Albany at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The Southeast Georgia Clinical Campus is based in Savannah at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System.

Students can spend the majority of their 3rd and 4th years at one of these campuses and still complete several rotations at the Augusta campus.

How do I apply to the MCG School of Medicine, Augusta, and/or the MCG/UGA Medical Partnership in Athens?

There is no separate admissions process.  All applicants applying through the Early Decision Program or the Regular Decision Program to the MCG School of Medicine will complete one application through the American Medical College Application Service.  Interviewed applicants will be asked to identify a campus preference (Augusta , Athens, or no preference).  While student preference will be considered, there is no guarantee that any applicant will be assigned to his/her preferred campus.
